Monday

I have not been keeping up with this blog b/c I am busy and struggling with balancing my life right now.

However, being torn between two computers all day is making my usual log-keeping of M's daily learning difficult so I'm going to try to log it all here (b/c I have access to this form ANY computer!) and see how that works. I will keep editing as the day goes on. So. Today:

~Read Flat Stanley. A few weeks ago, my friend's daughter's kindergarten class read this book, colored their own pictures of Stanley and sent him out to people in the mail to go have adventures with him. We took him to the Wild Animal Park and to Balboa Park last week on Margie's birthday.
~We wrote about our area of the world and wrote about our adventures with Stan and will mail it back later this week. Maybe today if I get my act together.
~Looked at our sprouting bean plants and talked about the roots and the leaves.
~The beans are in a makeshift terrarium so we talked about the water cycle (rain, evaporation, condensation).
~Elliott lined up geo-tiles.
~Margie wanted to paint another butterfly. She also painted a strawberry she'd made from salt dough a couple weeks ago.
~Snack time (spinach, string cheese, rice milk, banana chips)
~Margie pulled out her pompom animal kit she'd gotten for her birthday and made four creatures.
~Margie hid away in her room and created a binder labeled "Memories" - I wrote it for her the first time, but she copied the part for the side of the binder. She then put a photo from Halloween in the inside of it.
~Margie played with the geo-tiles Elliott had played with before.
~At some point someone got out the magnet set and both kids had turns playing with that.
~Margie made peanut butter sandwiches for her and Elliott for lunch.
~We cleaned up - Margie was very helpful - and Elliott chose the bedtime story.
~Naps.
~Margie did not take one.
~Margie made a smoothie for a snack and shared it with Elliott.
~Margie set herself up a makeshift percussion set of a laundry hamper, toy hard hat, computer chair, and played with different pitches of the drums, different ways to hit them (hands, books, broom), and different rhythms.
~All three of us sat down and jammed on the drums.
~We went outside and watered the plants and threw some more flower seeds on the flower bed.
~Came in to have a snack (popcorn cooked in coconut oil) and the kids did puzzles together.
