We had a busy, busy day full of learning and fun. Only I am not sure how much I can remember now. Let's see.
~I slept in and Alex got up and as far as I know did not turn on the TV for them. They were playing marbles when I got up. Alex went back to bed.
~Margie put together a marble track all by herself.
~Elliott tried to eat them. *sigh* We put them away.
~The kids were antsy and rather than turn the TV on, we went for a walk. The Cinco de Mayo Street Fair was today so we got a quick preview of that and hit Third Avenue News for my magazine which did a story mentioning me and my website.
~We walked back home and Elliott decided he was playing in the front yard with the bunny we have (not real) and then the doll houses.
~Alex wandered out to find us and we all decided to get ready and go.
~While we were waiting for Alex to get showered and ready, Margie picked an odd black ladybug off the bush in our front yard. I have never seen such a thing, but she informs me they are quite common. She told me probably someone invented them since I've become an adult. When pressed for who invented them, she decided it was probably whoever invented all ladybugs. Then, "I don't know. God?"
~A little Googling tells me these are called Twice-Stabbed Lady Beetles and that they are not found West of the Sierra Nevada. Someone should tell the ladybug that. Margie picked several more off the same bush. I wonder if they somehow got introduced to the environment here? I am tempted to call the Insectary. My Googles also tell me that these ladybugs love scale insects. I think I will check that bush to see if that is why they are hanging out there.
~And we're off! We spent HOURS at the street fair and had a blast. We listened to a Mariachi band, enjoyed some rides (including a pony!), got a book on El Festival de las Calaveras (or Dias de las Muertos), played at the playground, and just generally enjoyed ourselves.
~Once home and after supper Margie and Dad played Connect Four (Margie kept winning!) and Elliott and I ran to get some groceries.
~Bathtime (or: Baby Torture) and then the kids went to bed.
